Locality: Boccheggiano mines, Montieri, Grosseto Province, Tuscany, Italy (MINDAT)
Size: 9 x 6 x 3 cm - Cabinet (6-10 cm)
Weight: 280 g
minID:

Boccheggiano Aragonite from Italy. Fluorescent red under longwave (365nm LED), “peach” under shortwave. The last figure shows the fluorescence spectra under shortwave (275nm LED), longwave (365nm LED), and 405nm laser. The red fluorescence should be due to samarium (peak at 640nm). The peach color in shortwave should be due to the same red as in longwave, but mixed with the blue/white fluorescence of humic acids (broad, complex peaks at 400-500nm). The fluorescence under longwave and blue laser are very similar: the biggest difference is perhaps the missing of a shoulder at 600nm with the blue laser.

Photo in normal light.
Fluorescence under shortwave UV light (254nm Hg light).
Fluorescence under longwave UV light (365nm LED).
Fluorescence spectra acquired under UVC (275nm LED), UVA (365nm LED) and 405nm blue laser.
