SC420 - Austinite (TL)

Locality: 80 foot level, Gold Hill Mine (Western Utah Mine), Gold Hill, Gold Hill Mining District (Clifton Mining District), Tooele Co., Utah, USA (MINDAT)
Size: 6 x 4 x 1.5 cm - Small cabinet (5-7 cm)
Weight: 79.1 g
minID: 8DK-W68

Austinite crystals on limonite (?) matrix from the type locality, the Gold Hill Mine in Tooele Co., Utah, USA, on the 80 foot level. Under longwave UV light it fluoresces a nice yellow, due to, I think, manganese. Under shortwave instead it fluoresces green, typical of uranyl fluorescence.

Left: Fluorescence under 254nm UVC (shortwave) Hg light. Right: normal light.
Left: Fluorescence under 365nm UVA (longwave) LED. Right: normal light.
Fluorescence spectrum under 275nm UVC (shortwave) LED excitation. Emission due to uranyl ions.
Fluorescence spectrum under 365nm UVA (longwave) LED excitation. Emission prossibly due to manganese.
Comparison between the fluorescence spectra under 275nm LED and 365nm LED excitations.
