SC1210 – Sorensenite from the Ilímaussaq complex, Greenland

Feb 1, 2025 | Mineral Collection, Sorensenite

Large spay of compact sorensenite crystals. Sorensenite is known to fluoresce white/grey under shortwave UV light. Much less common is yellow fluorescence under longwave. This piece surprises me by the very strong yellow longwave fluorescence. The shortwave response is typical, if not a bit weaker than the usual. The dealer said this is an old piece. At some point it was hosted in a museum in Germany, it is said. Unfortunately, I don’t have more details on its history.
